Math 319, Sep-Dec 2023, Course Agenda

Below is a schedule for Math 319, Sep-Dec 2023. You should consider this schedule to be approximate. We will stick to it in the main, but there may be times when we find we can cover some material more quickly than anticipated, and other material will require more time than anticipated. This page will be updated as the term progresses.

In order to well in this course, it is extremely important that you work at the material every day. So be sure to start working on your assignments early in the 2-week cycle. PDE problems take a lot of calculations that cannot be done at the last minute!

There will be 5 regular assignments. Assignments are to be uploaded to canvas by 10 pm on the due date indicated in the agenda. During tutorials, the TA will demonstrate how to solve problems very similar to those in the assignments. So, students who attend tutorials will be rewarded for this extra work with an extension to the assignment due date (also indicated in the agenda). You are allowed one missed tutorial during the term, and still claim the extension. Keeping up in this course is critical, so late assignments will be discounted by 50% (so it's generally better to hand in a partially finished assignment on time, then to hand in a completed one late!).

There will also be two 80-minute two-stage Midterms and a three-hour Final Exam during the regular exam period in December. See the Agenda for dates.
