Java GUI Games Made by First Year Students

Students with no programming experience worked on 10 weekly labs that built towards two games throughout the semester. The first game is called "Feed Me", where a dog moves left or right to catch falling apples. The second game is called "Treasure Hunt", where a pirate navigates a maze-like island in order to hide treasure chests. By the 9th lab, students had completed a working version of their games. In the 10th lab, students were asked to customize their games however they see fit as a way to learn about ownership of their work. A few suggestions were given, but students had the freedom to be creative and "make it theirs". This was an optional lab, and about 30% of the class completed it. A sample of the best games from each lab were chosen to go into the "Hall of Fame" for each game. Below are sample videos showcasing the students' hard work.
