The conference will open with a keynote by Dr. Geoff Norman, Canada Research Chair in Cognitive Dimensions of Clinical Expertise, Assistant Dean of The Programme for Educational Research and Development at McMaster University.
The second day will open with a keynote address by Dr. Christopher Knapper, entitled "Teaching for Deeper and Lifelong Learning". Dr. Knapper is founding president of the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education and Professor Emeritus at Queens University.
Innovations in Teaching and Research Grant

This workshop series is designed to enhance new and veteran teacher’s learning environment facilitation skills. The 3, half day experience will involve participants learning and applying instructional design in the creation of mini-lessons that will be taught to the group. Feedback will be provided and will be incorporated in further mini-lessons and peer evaluations.
In May 2012, all UBC Okanagan courses using Vista will be migrated to the new learning management system, Black Board Learn. The CTL will be hosting a preview and information session for anyone interested in taking a look at this new system.
Come for one day and learn about constructive alignment of learning outcomes, content choices, instructional strategies and assessment. This will assist in planning your courses for fall.
Examine the process of peer review and be an information session for those needing to be peer reviewed for tenure and promotion, those interested in having a peer review done for formative reasons, and for those who have been given the task of reviewing their peers.
This workshop will be an information session for GoBeyond - The International Teach-In for Climate Justice happening March 5-17. Ideas and strategies will be shared for your classes’ participation in the Teach-In OR you can just come and hear about ideas for integrating sustainability into the curriculum.
Enjoy some light refreshments while networking with other faculty interested in research about teaching and learning. Come celebrate current research and connect with possible collaborators!

Practical suggestions for improving the participation in classroom discussions. It also touches on the importance of asking higher level thinking questions.
Examine various aspects of student engagement from the faculty and student perspective. Results of recent NSSE results will be analyzed as well as sharing best practices for engaging students.
Many different templates exist for planning lessons but one that is commonly used on BC campuses is the B.O.P.P.P.S.
