Kaltura is an open-source online video platform that is interactive and secure with many features for customizing the presentation of your content.  As UBC has successfully deployed Kaltura as a campus-wide media commons <http://mediacommons.psu.edu/> , faculty are encouraged to use this tool to organize audio, video and image content and to stream multimedia content.  If you are using multi-media in your classroom and for student assignments, you will want to learn more about Kaltura to open the teaching and learning possibilities through the use of video and rich media in education!

This workshop is designed to enhance new and veteran teacher"s learning environment facilitation skills. The 3 day experience will involve participants learning and applying instructional design in the creation of mini-lessons that will be taught to the group. Feedback will be provided and will be incorporated in further mini-lessons and peer evaluations.

E-learning Support for Students
Do your students need help with Turnitin?  Are they uncertain of how to use the Vista Assignment Dropbox?  In partnership with the Library, a new student position has been created to provide student support for WebCT Vista, Turnitin.com and other technologies supported by the CTL.  The Learning Commons Assistant is stationed in the Library for 12 hours each week and the hours for November 2011 are:

Monday 3:30pm- 6:30 pm
Tuesday 9:00 am-12:00pm
Wednesday 11:00am- 2:00pm
Thursday 4:00pm-7:00pm

New hours for the December exam period and Term 2 will be posted in the library.

Students can also contact the e-learning helpline at 250-807-9611. Winter Session hours are 8:00am- 9:00pm Monday to Thursday and 8:00 am-4:30 pm Friday.

IGS 630 Information Sessions
For Doctoral candidates who have completed their candidacy and seek to enhance their abilities with university level teaching, IGS 630 presents a unique opportunity.

Information Session for IGS 630: Teaching in Higher Education will be held
-November 17 from 3:30 PMto 4:15 PM. in SCI 331
-December 7 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM in SCI 331

Peter Arthur the instructor for IGS 630 and Director of the Centre for Teaching and Learning  and Daniel Keyes the interim Director of Interdisciplinary Studies will answer questions from PhD candidates and potential faculty mentors about this exciting non credit course that teaches doctoral students how to teach within their core discipline at an upper division level at a university.  They will discuss the structure of the course and the method of applying to take this course, which for the academic year 2012 will be open to a maximum of twelve students.

The deadline for applications for the course is 4:00 PM Monday 6 Feb. 2012 with applications due at the College of Graduate Studies
