Resource of the Month

The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
(3 issues per year)

The Canadian Journal for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (CJSoTL) is a peer reviewed, trans-disciplinary, open-access electronic journal created and supported by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education2.
The journal accepts submissions (in French or English) from academic professionals working to understand and enhance learning through systematic scholarly inquiry: articles relevant to the Canadian context, that shed new light on the teaching and learning interests of post-secondary education in Canada, including quantitative and/or qualitative research reports and essays examining issues in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

Fall Teaching Expo August 18-September 3
All faculty are invited to attend one, some or all of the free workshops being offered during our Fall Teaching Expo. There are a variety of sessions being offered for new and experienced faculty. Centre staff will be facilitating most of the workshops but we will also be acting as host for faculty offering workshops in their area of expertise.

Faculty Instructional Skills Seminar
Wednesday, August 18 - Friday, August 20,9:00 AM- 3:00 PM
Session Leader: Heather Hurren

This workshop is designed to enhance new and veteran teacher's learning environment facilitation skills. The 3 day experience will involve participants learning and applying instructional design in the creation of mini-lessons that will be taught to the group. Feedback will be provided and will be incorporated in further mini-lessons and peer evaluations.
In the workshop you will:
- write learning outcomes
- use common instructional techniques
- use common instructional resources
- evaluate learning
- develop lesson plans
- give and receive objective, constructive feedback
- increase your competence and confidence as an instructor, regardless of the skill and experience level you come in with!!
