Comments
This class has been offered many times and continues to deliver high value to students, especially the labs and project. (instructor rating: 4.86).
Strengths of the Course
- "Well laid out, excellent reference materials, and I've never had assignments or test marked so quickly. Probably the best taught course I have ever taken in my 20 years of post
secondary schooling."
- "This is one of the best courses I have taken to date. Everything was explained so succinctly, and Ramon truly cares about his students' success. An excellent professor overall."
- "Ramon is the most organized, effective, smart and fair teacher I have ever had, and I’ve taken over 80 credits of college courses. He clearly lays out the expectations, and gives us
plenty of material to study with. The homework directly applies to what exam questions will be like. He is super smart, patient, friendly and a great lecturer."
- "One of the very best courses I've taken in university and hands down the best COSC course. I feel this was among the most valuable courses I could have taken and not only did I
learn a great deal about databases, I've also learned how to properly design and teach a course."
Weakness of the Course
- "The only weakness in this course was that Ramon went a bit fast on the web programming but other than that the course was amazing!"
- "The mess of having to connect to various systems (Tomcat, MySQL, etc). Should go through it step be step in class to ensure everyone has access to these systems."
- "As a non COSC major, I found this class ran on some assumptions that weren't in the prerequisites. If it's going to be offered as an elective to other faculties, a higher level of
prerequisites is required in order to be comfortable with the material I feel."
Most Enjoyable Part of the Course
- "The lectures were very interesting and interactive. Although the course material wasn't easy, I feel like Dr Lawrence did everything he could to foster understanding and interest, and
his lectures were by far my favourite of the courses I'm taking right now."
- "The final project was a great way to further develop/test our database skills while having a lot of fun in the process."
