Below are the structures of two azurin proteins. One is wild-type azurin, containing the usual "blue" copper cupredoxin active site: Cu bound by two NHis, SCys, and SMet. The second is genetically-modified azurin in which the active site is replaced with the purple CuA active site found in cytochrome c oxidase.
