Conference Venue

The University of British Columbia (UBC) is ranked among the world's 40 best universities and its newest campus is located in the heart of the Okanagan Valley. This fast-growing campus opened its doors in September of 2005 and offers the current 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to participate in an intimate learning environment with region-centered research and international perspectives.

The TIES conference will take place on the scenic 260 acre campus of the University of British Columbia Okanagan, located north of the city of Kelowna and an easy 5 minute drive from the International Airport. The current 0.5 million square feet of the university's building space is scheduled to triple by 2010 and the new project designs are winning awards for world leadership in energy and environmental performance. One of the innovations used is the geo-exchange system, which will make the campus virtually emissions-free and reduce energy costs by around $100,000 per year. With this technology, groundwater from beneath the campus is used to heat or cool buildings and then returned to an immense aquifer or natural underground reservoir.

Public transport to and from the campus is operated by Kelowna Regional Transit System. The university can be reached from downtown Kelowna by bus number 97 or 8.
